What We Build

Historic Home Renovations in Charlotte

Revival Construction renovates and expands historic and older homes across Charlotte's classic neighborhoods, from 1920s Colonials in Myers Park to 1950s ranches in Cotswold and streetcar-era houses in Dilworth. We work to keep the character that makes these homes worth saving while rebuilding what no longer works for modern life.

Some of these homes sit inside Charlotte's local historic districts, which means design review before permits are pulled. We've built through that process before and can walk you through what it means for your property.

What's Included

Respect for the original, down to the trim profile.

  • Renovation and expansion work that respects the original architecture, from trim profiles to roofline.
  • Coordination with historic district or design review boards where a property requires it.
  • Structural upgrades that older homes often need: foundation, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC brought current.
  • The same matched design team and fixed-price contract as our other renovations.

Who It's For

An older home worth saving, renovated without losing it.

Owners of an older or historic Charlotte home who want to expand or fully renovate it without losing what makes it distinct. As with our other work, this is large-scale renovation, not small cosmetic updates.

Homes in a designated historic district add a layer of approval time before construction can start. We plan for that from the first consultation rather than discovering it mid-project.

How Pricing Works

The same range, with more care in pre-construction.

Historic renovations are scoped and priced the same way as our other large-scale work. Homes with district review or unusual structural conditions (post-and-beam framing, original masonry, knob-and-tube wiring) can run longer in pre-construction while we sort out what's possible.

Our renovation of a 1955 Providence Park home is a good example: we expanded the footprint by building into the existing garage, added a guest suite and a new kitchen, and kept the home's original character intact throughout.

Common Questions

Questions about historic work.

What sets you apart from other builders?

We specialize in custom home builds and large-scale renovations and additions that require a high level of detail. Whether we're designing a new custom home or restoring the character of a historic property, we focus on designs that align with the home's original intent while improving how it functions.

Do you help with design or selections during pre-construction?

Yes. We assemble the right architects and interior designers for your project, including ones experienced with historic properties, and coordinate every selection against budget and schedule before construction starts.

What kind of warranty do you offer?

Manufacturer warranties on systems, appliances, and materials, passed through to you in writing, plus a twelve-month check-in after you move back in. We've also been known to swing by a project years later to tighten a hinge or adjust a door, because we stay attached to the work and the people in it.
